GARFIELD-PALOUSE SCHOOL DELAY / CLOSURE PROCEDURES

NO ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE SCHOOL MEANS SCHOOL WILL OPERATE AS NORMAL

2  HOURS LATE – PAVED ROADS ONLY - (10:20 am start time)

*NO Preschool            *NO Zero Hour Class              *NO Breakfast

Whenever possible decisions about a 2 hour delay or school cancellation will be made and announced by 6:00am on the radio and television news channels, text, telephone and email alerts. If we have a 2 hour delay or release early, buses will run on paved roads only for both the morning and afternoon routes.

On 2 hr LATE START days, the shuttle bus between towns will leave each school at 9:30 am.  All students riding the shuttle bus from town to town should be at the school by 9:25 to avoid missing the bus.

If school closes during the regular day, buses will run on paved roads only and parents/guardians will be notified by phone, email, and text. Parents or designees whom cannot meet their student at their bus stop will need to call the school with their alternative plan to have their child dropped off.

EMERGENCY ROUTES FOR OUT-OF-TOWN STUDENT (GARFIELD AND PALOUSE)

When buses are on paved roads only, the students stop will be at the intersection of the road they live on and the closest highway. A letter with your family’s specific pick-up location and times will be sent to you soon. If your emergency stop is a mile or more from your home, students will be released to a parent or their designee. If no one is there, the student will be returned back to the school and parents will be contacted.

EMERGENCY ROUTES FOR IN-TOWN STUDENTS (GARFIELD AND PALOUSE)

Your bus stop will be at its regular location and will arrive approximately 90 mintes after your regular pick-up time.  For example, if your regular time is at 7:30am it will now be 90 minutes later.

    IN TOWN NON-PLOWED ROADS

If road conditions within city limits do not permit safe bus passage, we will make necessary changes to bus stop locations as needed; this includes but is not limited to parents transporting students as necessary.

    MS ACTIVITY SHUTTLE

The Activity Shuttle will run at normal time on a 2 hour delay day as long as roads are still passable at practice time.

NO ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE SCHOOL MEANS SCHOOL WILL OPERATE AS NORMAL.

    Gar-Pal School Emergency Notification System

The Gar-Pal Emergency Notification System hosted by Blackboard Connect is a rapid communication service that allows the Garfield-Palouse Schools to contact hundreds of parents or guardians within minutes. Our district has implemented this parent/guardian notification system.  The Gar-Pal Emergency Notification System will be used to notify families regarding cancellations and weather related school delays or closures.  You may receive these notifications by phone, e-mail or SMS text messages on your phone. This notification system works even when local power, Internet or school phone lines are inoperable. Phone recipients will see the Palouse school’s phone number (509-878-1921) on caller IDs for calls. SMS texts will show from various numbers.

To replay previously received messages:  Using the phone that the message was sent to, dial 855-473-7529 and follow the prompts. The Blackboard Connect Message Retrieval system will verify your phone number and give you the option to listen to previously sent messages.

Public notification will be made through area radio and television stations as early as possible.
